The Old Way is Overwhelming

Other exam prep courses overwhelm and bore you with too much information. Most of which aren't even on the exam.

Study and pass in less than 14 days

Pilotdmello fixed this problem by only giving you what you need to study and pass. Saving you several months of studying.

The sooner you pass your INRAT exam, the sooner you can focus entirely on your instrument flight training and avoid having ground school slow you down.

What is the INRAT Exam?

The INRAT is the Transport Canada written examination that serves as the prerequisite knowledge test for obtaining an Instrument Rating.

Prerequisite knowledge exam for the Instrument Rating

Must have completed 20 hours of instrument flight/ground time to write

TC exam consists of 50 questions and the pass mark is 70%

Unlock True Freedom as a Pilot

Why getting your Instrument Rating is a game changer.

1

Rise Above the Weather

Climbing above the clouds and seeing the sun's rays shining through never gets old. Instead of being grounded by low ceilings, you'll have the skills to safely punch through the layers and operate in the clear blue above.

2

Navigate with Precision

It's a great feeling to know you can navigate across the entire country without ever needing to look out the window. Land your aircraft safely and precisely, relying solely on your instruments and approach charts.

3

Ultimate Confidence

Mastering IFR procedures gives you exponentially more confidence and capability than just being a VFR pilot. You'll understand the airspace system on a professional level, making you a much safer and highly employable aviator.

I'm sure you've already felt this:
Writing a Transport Canada Exam can be stressful...

  • The INRAT exam has such a high failure rate. Finding free time to study is hard and most schools try to rush you to write the exam.
  • Do you have to take time off work to prepare? Find transportation to the remote test centre?
  • There is too much to study. But, is it even going to be asked on the exam?
  • The Canada Air Pilot (CAP) is very difficult to understand, and the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) is over 450 pages long. It's hard to know what to study!

The Penalty of Failure

If you fail, you will have to wait a long time to write it again.

First failure: 14 days
Second failure: 30 days
Third or subsequent:
30 days + 30 days per extra failure (Max 180 days)

Our Secret System

At pilotdmello, we have a secret system to helping pilots pass this INRAT exam from start to finish in only 14 days.

*Assuming you get a minimum of 85% on each of our practice tests.

Here is what's included

Everything you need, and nothing you don't.

No Other Textbooks Needed

This course is designed to be a "One Stop Shop". You don't need to go anywhere else to read up for more information.

If you get a practice question wrong, you will be given the correct answer reference along with a quick explanation to help you understand the material better.

Practice Exams

Sometimes, it's easier to see how the math questions are done instead of reading about it. The video lessons are designed with the instructor walking you through the problem. You can view it at your own convenience and replay it as many times you'd like.

Formula Cheat Sheet & Handouts

Consider this the most important calculations and IFR rules you can expect. You can save our exclusive INRAT Study Handouts to your device and easily review them on the go.

INSTRUMENT PROCEDURES

What are the alternate weather minima requirements for an airport with a single usable precision approach?

B. 600-2 or 300-1 above lowest usable HAT, whichever is greater.
Instructor Explanation

According to the CAP General pages, for an aerodrome to qualify as an alternate when it only has one usable precision approach, the forecasted weather must be 600ft and 2 miles visibility OR 300 feet and 1 mile visibility above the lowest usable HAT/HAA—whichever combination results in the higher minimums. This ensures a sufficient buffer for a safe approach.

AIR LAW & PROCEDURES

Under IFR, when does the pilot-in-command need to file an alternate airport in the flight plan?

A. For all IFR flights unless operating under specific commercial exemptions.
Instructor Explanation

CARs state that an alternate aerodrome must be specified for all IFR flight plans. Very few exceptions exist (such as some commercial operations operating under specific operations specifications with highly accurate weather and fuel buffers). For the standard INRAT candidate, the rule is always file an alternate.

METEOROLOGY

What indicates the presence of clear icing in a cloud layer?

C. Cumuliform clouds with large supercooled water droplets.
Instructor Explanation

Clear icing typically forms when an aircraft strikes large supercooled water droplets. These droplets do not freeze immediately but flow over the wing, creating a solid sheet of ice. This is most common in cumuliform clouds where strong updrafts support large liquid water droplets even at sub-freezing temperatures (0°C to -10°C).
